The AIL Centre for Research in Social Sciences kicked off the session with its maiden webinar on the 28th of February, 2021. Commemorating the World Social Justice Day, the theme of the webinar was SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES IN INDIA - CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS. World Day of Social Justice is a United Nations designated day celebrated on 20th day of February every year. The significant aim of this day is to provide development and equal status to all the citizens in employment opportunities, education, healthcare, etc. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the alarming inequalities have been exposed like never before and hence World Day of Social Justice 2021 assumes great importance.
It was a delightful experience with two very learned dignitaries on the panel, Dr. Deviyani Singh and Adv. Navneet Kaur Dhanjal. Adv. Navneet Kaur Dhanjal is currently practicing at the Punjab & Haryana High Court and is an alumini of AIL. She is also the Hub Coordinator at Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. Our second speaker, Dr. Devyani is an Educator based in Chandigarh and has also worked with the Lok Sabha Secretariat as the Executive Officer in the Committee on External Affairs. She has a double M.A and a Phd. in International Terrorism.
The webinar turned out to be an interesting amalgamation of pertinent questions revolving around Social Justice and the Indian Constitution - An Evolving Relationship and the Role of Human Rights Organizations in achieving Social Justice. With the synergy put in by the Faculty Coordinators, as well the Student Coordinators of ACRSS, the webinar was a massive success. The attendance touched 60 participants with extremely interesting questions following the enlightening lectures delivered by the panellists. The ACRSS will continue to come up with such like events in order to promote an interest in the intricacies of social sciences!
